RALEIGH, NC – Richmond baseball used a four-run seventh inning to defeat NC State, 5-1, Tuesday at Doak Field. The victory moves the Spiders to 7-1 on the season and marks the fourth-straight victory over the Wolfpack, the first since the 2014 season.
The Spiders return to Pitt Field to kick off eleven-straight home games beginning with the Central Virginia Challenge this weekend. Richmond will host Penn State Friday, Boston College Saturday and Toledo on Sunday. All games will be on ESPN+.
After the Wolfpack got one run in the first, the Richmond pitching staff slammed the door on the NC State offense. NC State got one runner on in the second off Jackson Hinchliffe. Brian Reinke took over in the third and retired 13-straight batters with four strikeouts in four and a third of an inning.
Richmond got on the board in the third when Jack Arcamone singled through the left side to score Jordan Jaffe from second to tie the game at 1-all.
With two outs in the seventh, Aaron Whitley doubled to start the Spiders rally. Phil Bernstein got hit by a pitch to push Whitley to second. Jordan Jaffe sent a 2-1 pitch over the right center wall to collect his second home run of the season and give Richmond a 4-1 lead. Arcamone followed with a golf swing of a home run solo blast out of the park and hit the team bus for his second of the year.
Reinke handed the game over to Chayse Gruber for the final two and two thirds of the game. Gruber allowed a walk and struck out five to close out the victory for Richmond.
