
Spiders Battle to Scoreless Draw at Delaware

NEWARK, De. – Behind seven saves from senior goalkeeper Taylor Montague, the University of Richmond Women's Soccer team battled to a 0-0 score line at Delaware Sunday afternoon. With the draw, the Spiders moved to 1-2-3 on the year while the Fighting Blue Hens moved to 3-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Delaware immediately applied pressure to the Spider back line, putting up two quick shots in the first 10 minutes. After the Spiders settled into the match, senior Casey Merz recorded a shot in the 36th minute, but was just over the goal. The Blue Hens would get one more shot off in the half, but Montague would collect the save.
Junior Sofia Mancino opened the second half with a shot in the 53rd minute, allowing graduate Caitlin Sutton to have a rebound look, but would be collected by the Delaware keeper. Three minutes later in the 56th minute, Sutton would have another shot, but would sail just right of the frame. The Spider defense would hold up strong against the Delaware pressure to end the match with a scoreless draw, 0-0.
NOTES ON THE GAME
The Spiders are back in action on Thursday at American, kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. Richmond will return home on Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. for Senior Day at President's Field at River Road against Charlotte.
