HOW IT HAPPENED
After shots from Emma Shields, Molly Wierman and Kiley Fitzgerald, the Patriots were able to storm down the field and create a chance in front of goal in the 24th minute for the opening goal. Richmond would put up two more shots in the first half but couldn't capitalize on the chances. In the second half, Caitlin Sutton had a dangerous shot in front of the goal in the 80th minute but was saved by the GMU keeper. As the second half went on, the Spiders were able to put up a few more shots on frame but couldn't find the back of the net for the 1-0 score line.
NOTES ON THE GAME
FROM HEAD COACH Adam Denton
"We possessed the ball reasonably well, which let us get higher up the field. We made some adjustments in the first half and changed our shape a little bit to help get a few of our players in attacking position. I think those things led us to getting more opportunities, but we must do more with the opportunities we get. Ultimately, the game comes down to a couple of key moments and we just didn't have enough quality in that final third to get the goal back from the first half."
UP NEXT
Richmond will look to snap it's four-game skid on Sunday, as the Spiders travel to Philadelphia to take on La Salle at 1 p.m. The Spiders will return to President's Field on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. against St. Bonaventure for Alumni Weekend.
