Soccer Draws with Radford Thursday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Soccer team drew a physical match Thursday afternoon, 0-0, against Radford at President's Field at River Road. With the draw, the Spiders moved to 1-2-2 on the season while the Highlanders moved to 2-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Radford began the game with a pair of shots, but the Spider defense was able to contain the pressure. After the Spiders settled into the match, graduate Molly Wierman recorded a shot in the 32nd minute, but was left of the goal. Wierman would put one more shot on frame in the 24th minute, but Radford would collect the save.
In the second half, the Richmond offense began to seek a goal as junior JoJo McShane, graduate Caitlin Sutton and sophomore Emma Shields had back-to-back looks, but couldn't capitalize. A dangerous sequence of shots from Radford almost put the Highlanders up in the 74th minute, but the Spider defense was able to clear the ball and see the rest of the game play out for the 0-0 score line.
NOTES ON THE GAME
The Spiders are back in action on Sunday at Delaware. The match is slated for 2 p.m. in Newark, De. Richmond will then take on American on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

NOTES ON THE GAME
- Montague recorded her fifth-straight start and played the full 90 minutes in goal. Caitlin Sutton, Elle Dziadzio, Gwen Howell, JoJo McShane and Casey Merz also played the full 90.
- Montague ended the game with five saves through 14 shots.
- Sutton and Molly Wierman paced the team with three shots apiece while Wierman and Hannah Antonick had the only looks on frame.
- Richmond recorded 13 shots during the match.
- Richmond was held to no corner kicks, the fewest of the season.
- JoJo McShane picked up a yellow card in the 89th minute.
- The Spiders picked up the first draw in program history over the Highlanders and moved the all-time series record to 1-1-1.
