08/27/2023 | Women's Soccer
NORFOLK, Va. – With a Monarch goal in the 10th minute of action, the University of Richmond Women's Soccer team dropped a tough match, 1-0, Sunday evening at Old Dominion. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 1-2-1 overall while the Monarchs improved to 4-0-0.
GOALS
'10 – ODU: Ashlynn Kulha (Assist by Andrea Algarin Balcazar)
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Richmond absorbed the initial pressure from the Monarchs, a counterattack from the opposition resulted in a corner kick. ODU's Kulha hit the cross off her left foot into the net past senior goalkeeper Taylor Montague. After exchanging possession throughout the match, senior Casey Merz had a dangerous shot on goal in the 86th minute, but was saved by the Monarch keeper.
NOTES ON THE GAME
FROM HEAD COACH Adam Denton
"I was disappointed to concede on the restart. It put us behind with them being at home with a large crowd, but we responded well, and we battled hard. We made it difficult for them to play through us because we held our shape and won possession of the ball. We have to continue to be brave when we win the ball. We have to take it as a good performance against a really good team on the road and we have to take those positives and put them into the next game."
UP NEXT
The Spiders will return home to President's Field at River Road on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. against Radford before traveling to Delaware on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.
