Spiders Fall to Fordham Saturday, end Eight-Match Skid with win over Rhode Island Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Tennis team rounded out its three match homestand with a hard-fought loss to Fordham on Saturday and a huge 4-2 win over Rhode Island on Sunday. Following the matches, the Spiders ended an eight match losing streak and moved to 5-14 on the year and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Against Fordham, Elizabeth Novak and Claire Le Du picked up the two singles points as Novak defeated Avery Aude (FORW), 7-6(2), 6-2 on court four and Le Du won 6-3, 6-4 over Lorraine Bergmann on court six. Carly Cohen left her match unfinished on court two as she left her match at 4-6, 6-4, 4-4 against Lindsay Hung (FORW).
In the match against Rhode Island Sunday morning, the Rams picked up the doubles point while in singles play, Andrea Campodonico handled business on court three against Nadia Rajan (URI), 6-3, 6-4 and Elizabeth Novak defeated Nikki Fernando (URI) 6-1, 6-2 on court four. Claire Le Du won her court five match over Paulina Loredo, 6-1, 6-2 and Polina Shitikova clinched the final point for the Spiders, 6-1, 6-0 on court six against Priyanka Shanker (URI).
The Spiders will take on Davidson on Apr. 15 at 1 p.m. before playing host to William & Mary on Apr. 16 at 2 p.m. The team will look to round out the regular season against Saint Josephs at home on Apr. 21 at 1 p.m.
