Spiders Round out Spring Break Matches in the Lone Star State

RICHMOND, Va. – Following a week of matches in Texas over spring break, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team played tough competition against SMU on Sunday, TCU on Monday and Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. Following the slate of matches, the Spiders moved to 4-9 on the year.

Richmond fell in the match against SMU, 6-1, as junior Andrea Campodonico defeated Jackie Nylander (SMU), 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 on singles court three for the lone Spider point. On Monday, the Spiders again fell 6-1 against the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth as freshman Elizabeth Novak defeated Jade Otway (TCU), 6-2, 6-3 on court three. The Spiders rounded out the week with a narrow loss to Stephen F. Austin, 4-3, as junior Leonor Oliveira defeated Alkmini Giannakogiorgou (SFA), 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and junior Carly Cohen won her singles match against Zala Ule, 6-4, 6-3 on court three. Junior Polina Shitikova was the final Spider to come out victorious in singles play, defeating Sage Koch (SFA), 6-1, 6-1. In doubles Le Du, alongside freshman Lara Bakhaya defeated Ule/Felicia Back, 7-5 for the lone doubles win.

"It was a good but tough week for us," said Head Coach Jacob Dunbar. "We got to enjoy some time together as a team while also spending some valuable time in some warmer weather. That will only help us as we enter the warmer months and as we prepare for conference in Orlando. We had some strong showings from many players, but unfortunately couldn't put it all together in the end. But we are looking forward to getting back on the match court this Tuesday and we are keeping our focus on the long term. I see us improving day in and day out so I think we are in a good place as a team."

Following the break, the Spiders will be back in action at home on Mar. 14, playing host to the University of the Pacific at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.
