Spiders Pick up Huge win over ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Behind three doubles victories, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team picked up a huge 5-2 victory over Eastern Carolina Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Spiders improve to 3-6 overall while the Pirates fell to 3-5.
"Overall, it was a really good showing today, they showed great fight which is something we can always count on from this team," said Head Coach Jacob Dunbar. "Today was filled with a lot of high-pressure moments and they stayed tough and confident throughout which has been a focus for us. Even in doubles with some new pairings, they came out aggressive which is a step in the right direction."
In doubles action, juniors Polina Shitikova and Andrea Campodonico defeated Bachir/Hussain (ECU), 6-2 on court one while freshman Lara Bakhaya and redshirt sophomore Claire Le Du defeated Muzzolon/Rivera (ECU) 6-3 on court two and senior Marta Buendia defeated Becker/Champion (ECU) 6-7 with doubles partner Elizabeth Novak on court three.
In singles, Oliveira defeated Rivera (ECU) 6-1, 6-3 on court one while Campodonico defeated Bachir (ECU) 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 (1) on court two. On court five, Buenia defeated Champion (ECU), 6-4, 6-3 and Le Du defeated Madi (ECU) 6-3, 6-4 on singles court six.
UP NEXT – The. Spiders are back in action on Mar. 1 at Longwood before traveling to the Lone Star State to take on SMU on Mar. 5, TCU on Mar. 6 and Stephen F. Austin on Mar. 7.
