Spiders Advance To A-10 Semifinals With Sweep Against Davidson, 4-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won the doubles point and earned three singles points in a 4-0 sweep against Davidson Thursday night at the USTA National Campus.
The Spiders (8-4, 4-1 A-10) won two of the three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Marta Buendia (Madrid, Spain) and senior Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) fell against Mira Gladstone and Victoria Anyanwu, 6-1.
Graduate student Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) were leading 3-2 and won the final three games to defeat Josie Schaffer and Elizabeth Truluck, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
In the final doubles match, sophomore Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Sara Salemyr (Stockholm, Sweden) clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win against Franny Shea and Charlotte James at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Campodonico won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 against Gladstone at No. 3 singles to give Richmond a 2-0 lead. Zlateva made it 3-0 Spiders with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Truluck at No. 2 singles.
Haynes clinched the victory with a straight-sets win against James, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 singles. The other three matches went unfinished.
Freshman Polina Shitikova (Rybinsk, Russia) won the first set against Ava Ignatowich, 6-3 and was winning 4-3 in the second set at No. 4 singles. Dunbar split sets against Schaffer 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Salemyr took the first set against Shea, 7-6 (7-5) and was leading 2-1 in the second set at No. 5 singles.
The Spiders will face No. 2 seed Rhode Island in the A-10 semifinal on Friday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
