
Richmond Sweeps Saint Joseph’s 7-0 on Senior Day

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and completed the sweep in singles winning every match against Saint Joseph's, 7-0, Friday at Westhampton Tennis Courts. All three seniors won their matches on Senior Day in singles and doubles.
The Spiders (5-4, 3-1 A-10) won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 3 doubles, freshman Carly Cohen (Pepper Pike, Ohio) and senior Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) took care of Sophia Amato and Fabiana Tort-Umpierre, 6-1.
Sophomore Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Sara Salemyr (Stockholm, Sweden) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win against Anna Kirk and Alex Kramer at No. 2 doubles.
In the final doubles match, graduate student Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) trailed 3-4 in the match before winning three-straight games to sweep the doubles point against Amanda Nava and Stow Weiss, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Zlateva pushed the lead to 2-0 after a straight-sets win against Weiss, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Salemyr won in straight sets against Ireland Amato, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Freshman Polina Shitikova (Rybinsk, Russia) clinched the win against Paige Conrad at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Campodonico gave Richmond a 5-0 lead after winning against Tort-Umpierre, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Dunbar won against Nava, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to make the score 6-0. Haynes made it a clean 7-0 sweep with a comeback win at No. 6 singles against Sophia Amato, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6). Haynes forced a third set super tiebreaker by winning the second set 6-1. Haynes went up 9-3 and won 10-6 in the super tiebreaker.
Richmond will face UNCG in its final home match of the season on Saturday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
