Richmond Secures 6-1 Road Win at New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won the doubles point and five singles matches to earn a 6-1 win on the road at New Orleans Wednesday at the University Tennis Center.
The Spiders (6-5) have won three matches in a row and finished its spring break trip 2-0. In doubles, senior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and senior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) defeated Tristanne Dechoux and Yurina Asai, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
The Privateers won at No. 2 doubles as senior Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and junior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) fell to Ank Vullings and Mar Gendra, 6-4.
In the final doubles match, senior Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) and freshman Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) won against Claudette Gilhespie and Lea Alguacil, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, sophomore Helene Heiberg (Oslo, Norway) earned a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles against Alguacil, 6-0, 6-1. Owens earned a 6-4, 6-4, win against Gendra at No. 4 singles.
UNO picked up their lone point after Vullings won against Dunbar, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Marshall won in straight sets against Abdelrahim, 7-6 (1), 6-3 at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, Campodonico won against Gilhespie, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Campodonico won the second set tiebreaker, 7-5.
In the final match, Zlateva closed out the 6-1 win with a 7-6 (0), 6-3 win against Dechoux at No. 2 singles.
Richmond will host Towson on Monday, March 16, at 2:30 p.m. at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
