
Richmond Drops Close A-10 Match At Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won the doubles point but couldn't capitalize in singles falling 4-3 against Davidson Sunday at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The Spiders (7-7) won the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Junior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) and sophomore Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) earned a tough 6-4 win against Megan Scholvinck and Elizabeth Truluck at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and sophomore Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) fell to Nicole Krykanov and Gabrielle Centenari, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.
In the deciding doubles match, Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) outlasted Alexandra Abele and Samantha Armas, 7-6 (1), at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, freshman Helene Heiberg (Oslo, Norway) lost to Truluck, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. At No. 1 singles, Scholvinck won in straight sets against Dunbar, 6-2, 6-4.
Senior Ana Ramirez (Mexico City) tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Alyssa Hahn at No. 6 singles. Marshall gave the Spiders a 3-2 lead after winning at No. 2 singles against Abele, 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
Davidson tied the match at 3-3 after Centenari won in straight sets against Zlateva, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. The Wildcats clinched the win with a thrilling match as Armas won a third set tiebreaker against Owens at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Richmond returns home to finish the season with three home matches at the Westhampton Tennis Courts starting with ECU on April 6.
