The Spider track and field team had another busy weekend, traveling to Winston-Salem, Nc. and Tallahassee, Fl. to compete at the JDL Fast Track Camel City Invitational and the USATF Cross Country Championships respectively.Â
On Friday, a number of Spiders raced at Camel City, claiming qualifying marks to compete in ECAC and IC4A Championships. Claire Brown and Caroline Robelen competed in the mile, taking third and ninth respectively in Section 2. Sophomore Noah Yuro competed in Section 2 of the men's mile, notching a time of 4:16.27, meaning that a flat track conversion qualified him for the IC4A Championships. Both Morgan Towe and Tamar Accius competed in the 200M, Towe placing fourth in Section 5 and Accius winning her section with a time of 25.31 and qualifying for ECAC with a flat track conversion time. The 60H prelim saw three Spiders race: Haley Berkeley, Tania Matthews and Amaya Jackson, all just shy off of their personal bests last weekend. The 1,000M competition saw Claire Brown and Brooke Fazio both race in what the coaches called "a loaded field." Fazio claimed second overall with a time of 2:52.41, beating Brown who came in sixth. Fazio's time earns her the second fastest time in the A-10 in her first ever running of the 1,000M indoor event. Accius continued the hot streak with a personal best in qualifying round of the 60M of 7.68, fourth fastest time in the A-10 and also qualifying for the ECAC Championship. In the women's 5K event, junior Ave Grosenheider pulled away from the competition to win the event and qualify for the ECACs. Miles Clikeman, Paul Knepple and Peter Borger all raced in the men's 5K, Clikeman qualified for IC4A with a time of 14:45.00. The Spider women rounded out day one with the 3K event. The men also ran the 3K with Trey Burleson competing.Â
On Saturday, the women's 400M had Rachel Helbling and Kayla Woods racing, Helbling taking second in her section with a time of 57.16 and Woods won her section with a time of 58.63, taking second and eighth overall.Â
In the USATF Cross Country Championship race, Patrick Sutphin raced in Tallahassee. Sutphin ran a strong race, claiming 41st in a very competitive field with a time of 27:29.3.Â
