Spiders Take Down Hawks for Third A-10 Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team took an early lead with a doubles sweep and won four of six singles matches to take a 5-2 win over Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon.

Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall led the way for the Spiders in doubles play, posting a commanding 6-0 win over Amanda Nava and Isis Gill-Reid on court 1. Dessi Zlateva and Lea Owens followed that up with a 6-2 win over Maureen and Katherine Devlin at No. 3, before Lyndell Giffenig and Adrienne Haynes posted a 6-3 victory on court 2 over Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmoller.

Giffenig continued her winning ways in singles action, taking down Katherine Devlin 6-0, 6-1 on court 6. Marshall wrapped up her day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Maureen Devlin on court 2, while Owens posted a 6-2, 6-2 win on court 3 over Gomez.

Dunbar rounded out the scoring for the Spiders with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback win over Nava on court 1.

The Spiders return to action tomorrow, April 14, as they stay in Philadelphia to face reigning A-10 Champion UMass. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
