DELAND, Fla. – As the weather continue to warms up, the University of Richmond women's tennis team is doing the same.
In the second match of their trip south, the Spiders battled their way to a second straight victory, 4-3, over Stetson on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Brittany Boys fought her way to a three set victory at the #3 singles position to clinch the win, while senior Katya Salas, sophomore Gaby Rosales and freshman Ana Ramirez all added singles wins on the day for the Spiders.
"I am very happy with the fight the team displayed today," Head Coach Mark Wesselink said. "Gaby and Brittany played some clutch matches to pull out the win."
The Spiders looked to grab the doubles point early with Anna Abadias Morales and Emily Gitman earning victory at the third doubles spot. However, the Hatters rallied to win the other two doubles matches and earn the first point of the match.
Ramirez quickly evened the match with a straight set victory, 6-3, 6-3 over Stetson's Carolina Meregalli. Both teams would trade points with Salas winning in straight sets.
With Stetson leading 3-2, Rosales fought back to win a three-set thriller over Isabella Fernandez to even the match and set the stage for Boys to pull out the match winner.
Richmond wraps up their Florida trip on Friday when they take on Appalachian State in Orlando. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
