UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Spider women's tennis team saw its eight-game win streak swept away by high winds and the East Carolina Pirates, 4-2, Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the blustery Westhampton Tennis Complex.
East Carolina (12-9) used a pair of 6-0 triumphs in doubles play to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Pirates used two three-set singles wins to decide the match.
The Spiders (11-3) posted wins in a pair of straight-set decisions as Brittany Boys defeated Sarah Sarjoo 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and Abadias Morales dismissed Nicole LaDuca 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1.
"I thought ECU played great," offered Richmond coach Mark Wesselink. "They were very tough in the wind today."
The women will next face cross-town Atlantic 10 rival VCU at the Westhampton Tennis Complex Saturday April 4 at 1pm.
