SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Richmond attackman J.P. Forester and defender Brendan Hynes have been named the Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games of April 17-19, the league office announced on Tuesday. The selections are made by the conference office. This is only the second time that one SoCon school has swept both the offensive and defensive awards.
Forester netted four goals and added two assists for a six-point performance in Richmond's comeback win over Bellarmine on Saturday. The sophomore scored on four of his five shots and recorded his 10th multi-goal game of the season for the Spiders.
Forester ranks fifth in the SoCon in goals per game (2.08), third in assists per game (1.23) and tied for third in points per game (3.31). The native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. earns the weekly award for the first time in the inaugural season of SoCon lacrosse.
Hynes once again earned the weekly defensive honor with another stellar performance on Saturday for the Spiders. The sophomore defender grabbed a game-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers, as Richmond held Bellarmine scoreless in the second half.
The native of Mahopac, N.Y. leads the Spiders with 23 caused turnovers and 51 ground balls this season. He claims Defensive Player of the Week for the third straight week and fourth time this season.
Richmond faces off against Mercer this Saturday at Robins Stadium at noon, with the winner to be crowned the first Southern Conference Champion and host of the conference tournament the following weekend. The Spiders are receiving votes in both national polls this week.
