Goldberg Wins SoCon Weekly Honor
02/24/2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Richmond sophomore midfielder Mitch Goldberg (Damascus, Maryland) was today named the Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. It was his first award of the season.
Goldberg tied his school record, set last week against Rutgers, with five goals in a home 11-10 overtime loss to No. 17 Marquette. His final goal came with 7.1 seconds remaining to tie the game at 10 and sent the contest into the extra period.
For the season, Goldberg leads the team with 11 goals and 12 points. He is the program's all-time goal-scoring leader with 43. He is second in the SoCon with 3.67 goals per game. He collected his eighth hat trick out of Richmond's 20-game existence, his second in the three UR games this season.
He joins goalie Benny Pugh (Powhatan, Virginia / Woodberry Forest School) as the two Spiders who have collected a SoCon Player of the Week award this season. Pugh won Defensive Player of the Week in both of the first two weeks of the season.
After receiving votes in all three national polls last week, the Spiders continue to be listed in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll, the USILA poll and the Cascade/InsideLacrosse.com media poll.
The 2-1 Spiders will host UMBC this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Robins Stadium. Admission is free.
