Match At UVa. Against Tennessee Set For Sunday
09/12/2014 | Women's Soccer
Richmond women's soccer concludes its seven match away-from-home start to the season in a Sunday match against Tennessee at Virginia's Klockner Field at noon in the Nike Virginia Classic. The Spiders and Lady Vols have met three times in women's soccer history, with the Spiders winning the only time the two teams have played one another on Virginia soil, a 1-0 home win on September 15, 2004, when UT was ranked seventh in the country. Richmond has lost both meetings at Tennessee in the series history.
Richmond is an even 3-3 this season, following Wednesday's 4-1 loss at William & Mary. That loss stopped a two-match win streak from the weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.
Samantha Cicconi (Madison, New Jersey) scored her first goal of the season at William & Mary, with junior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Connecticut) getting her team-leading fourth assist of the season. Richmond has had a two-goal scorer in all three of its season wins. Redshirt freshman Meaghan Carrigan (Greenville, South Carolina) has done it twice this season and leads the team with those four goals.
Tennessee is currently 3-2, with a Friday match scheduled against Virginia scheduled for Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. UT posted a pair of shutouts last week and is allowing just over a half-goal per game through its first five. Hannah Wilkinson leads the team with three goals so far this season.
The Spiders will return home for the next four in a row at Robins Stadium, starting Friday night, September 19, with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Princeton.
