
GW Overcomes Wo Men's Tennis In Singles Battle

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Richmond women's tennis team was edged by the George Washington Colonials, 4-3, in a match that came down to the final singles competition Sunday afternoon at the GW Tennis Center.
The Spiders got ahead early as they dominated in doubles competition. The top two duos secured the 1-0 lead for Richmond. Melissa Kandinata and Anna Abadias Morales recorded the 8-4 victory on court one, while Brittany Boys and Katya Salas took a 8-6 win on court two.
George Washington crept back, however, taking three singles matches to Richmond's two. It came down to the No. 3 spot, where Taylore Nederlander and Elizabeth Sims battled, but Nederlander ended up with the 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 victory.
Abadias Morales and Denny Lamachia recorded the two singles wins for Richmond – two-set victories – on courts one and six, respectively.
The Spiders will return to the court Wednesday, April 9 to host instate-rival James Madison at 2 p.m.
