Women's Tennis Faces Tough Match From South Alabama

TAMPA, Fla.- The Spider women's tennis team wrapped up spring break play with a 5-2 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars in Tampa on Friday.
"We competed well," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "We got out outdoor season going."
South Alabama jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point.
Melissa Kandinata played a tough three set battle at the no. 1 position where she bounced back from a first set loss to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Anna Abadias won at the no. 3 position, to earn the Spiders second point on the day.
Freshman Emily Gitman played a tight three set match. Gitman lost the first set 7-6, but bounced back to win the second 6-4. The point game down to the last set where she was narrowly edged 11-9 by Maria Papke.
" The future is looking good for the Spiders," said Wesselink.
Richmond will play their first home match on Thursday when they face Georgetown at 2 p.m.
