Three More Spiders Move On To NCAA National Championship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three more Richmond Track & Field athletes clinched spots in the NCAA National Championship meet as action continued Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Indiana University.
Andrew Benford and Nicol Traynor advanced in the steeplechase and Heather Roush in the javelin.
Benford finished fifth overall in the 3,000m steeplechase in a lightning-fast time of 8:39.71, which also represents a USATF National Championship A Standard. The senior finished in a pack of five runners that was separated by just four seconds.
Traynor followed with another impressive performance in the 3,000m steeple as she finished sixth overall in a time of 10:11.26.
In the javelin, Roush recorded a mark of 46.74m to finish 10th overall Friday and clinch her NCAA National Championship spot.
Benford, Traynor and Roush join Matt Llano, who earned a National Championship in the 10,000m Thursday night.
Action concludes Saturday at the NCAA East Prelimiary Round with Amy Van Alstine and Jill Prentice running the 5,000m and Monica Howard competing in the discus.
The NCAA National Championship begins Wednesday, June 8 at Drake University.
