Women's Tennis Shuts Out UMass

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The women's tennis team (13-4) shut out UMass 7-0 Saturday afternoon in Richmond. The Spiders improved to 21-0 in matches versus Atlantic 10 opponents.
In doubles action, the Spiders had no problem with the Minutewomen as No. 1 Helen Cunningham/Isabel Arana def. Maude Lecluyse/Laura Danai, 8-6 while No. 2 Erin Clark/Kelly Tidwell def. Tanisha Hodgson/Kaitlyn Carpenter 8-1. The No. 3 pair Xenia Schneider/Joanna Matuszczyk def. Candynce Boney/Laurent McKay in a tight set 8-7 (6).
In singles play, the Spiders won handily with No. 1 Pamela Duran dominating Boney 6-3, 6-3. No. 2 Erin Clark defeated Carpenter 6-4, 6-1 while Cunningham defeated Lecluyse 6-1, 6-1.
No. 4 Ashlee Vosters rolled past Hodgson 6-0, 6-2 while Arana defeated Danai 6-4, 6-4. No. 6 Catherine Crystal defeated McKay 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Spiders play at JMU Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
