PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Temple Ends Spiders' Run At A-10's The Richmond women's tennis team fell to no. 2 Temple in the semi-finals, 4-1.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - No. 2 Temple ended the Spiders' Atlantic 10 domination in the semi-final, 4-1. Richmond took the top crown at the championships the past four years and again in 2002. The Spiders took down La Salle in the first round then dominated Rhode Island in the quarterfinals to move on to face Temple in the semis.
Freshman Isabel Arana earned the Spiders' point in the sixth position of singles play taking down Temple's Felicia Frazier, 6-4, 7-6.
Richmond's pairings in doubles play struggled to get past the Owls taking home wins in both matches. Temple also won three of the four matches in singles action to move on to face Xavier in the championship match.
"Temple played a great match," head coach Mark Wesselink added. "I was proud of the way we competed at the tournament this year. This loss will make us a more determined and driven team next year."
The Spiders finished the 2008 season 9-11, going 2-1 at the 2008 A-10 Championships.
