Women's Tennis Overpowers Marshall, 5-2

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's tennis team earned its second-straight win of the season, with a 5-2 victory over No. 72 Marshall. Sophomore Pamela Duran led the Spiders with a win over the #43 player in the country at first doubles, in addition to continuing her win streak with sophomore Ashlee Vosters at second doubles, as they notched their seventh-straight win.
"I'm so proud of the team for working so hard over spring break and coming back early and performing so well," said Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink.
In doubles action, the Beatrice Grasu/Robin Carter duo and the Duran/Vosters duo notched wins at the no. 1 and 2 spots, respectively to secure the doubles point for Richmond. The win was the seventh consecutive win at second doubles for Duran and Vosters.
Duran continued her winning ways into singles action, battling for a hard-fought victory over the #43 player in the nation, Kellie Schmitt, at the no. 1 spot. "Pamela's win was amazing," said Wesselink. "This was her second win over a top player and will move her up in the national rankings."
Grasu, Vosters and Jessica Hubbard also came through with wins for the Spiders, at third, fourth and sixth singles as the Richmond took a 5-2 win over Marshall and claimed its second-straight win.
"It's nice to have a healthy team," said Wesselink. "We feel like we are much stronger than our record shows and I think today proved that."
The Spiders (2-6, 1-1 in A-10) return to the court on Wednesday, playing at James Madison at 3:00 p.m.
