CLEMSON, SC - #8 Clemson was credited with an own goal at the beginning of the second half and the Lady Tigers defeated Richmond 1-0 in a women's intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC on Sunday afternoon. Richmond falls to 1-2 while Clemson improves to 4-0.
"This was one of the best games that we have ever played," said Richmond head coach Peter Albright. "It was really a back and forth game and we had a couple of great chances to score."
Clemson's goal occurred with 50:45 gone in the match after the Tigers' Paige Ledford took a shot and the ball came off Richmond goalkeeper Kelly Kolker. The loose ball rebounded off Spiders' defender Hillary Prince and the ball went into the Richmond goal.
"Hillary Prince was outstanding in the backfield and both goalkeepers, Kelly Kolker and Megan Cox, played very well."
The Tigers outshot Richmond 26 to 10 and earned five corner kicks to the Spiders' three.
"This was a great team effort and we are very encouraged about the rest of the season after this showing."
