UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Olina Vidarsdottir scored two goals, her first of the season, to lead the University of Richmond women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Fordham tonight at First Market Stadium. The Spiders improve to 3-4-1, 1-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 while the Rams drop to 5-2-1, 0-2-0 in the league.
"So much of soccer is about confidence," Richmond head coach Peter Albright commented. "Olina's confidence is extremely high right now and it is great to see. She is a true warrior and she did a great job tonight."
The Spiders scored their first goal of the night at the 19:20 mark when sophomore Kelsey Blank passed the ball to Vidarsdottir who then broke free from her defender and dribbled up the left side of the field. Her shot went past Ram goalkeeper Julie Wynns and into the right corner of the net.
Richmond built a 2-0 lead with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game off junior Hillary Prince's penalty kick, her first career goal.
At the 84:32 point, Vidarsdottir tallied her second score, taking a cross from freshman Ali LeVIne and tapping the ball under the feet of the leaping Ram goalie.
The Spiders dominated offensively, taking 22 shots to the Rams' nine.
Senior Megan Cox made two saves, including one off a penalty kick, in the net for the Spiders while Wynns recorded 11 for the Rams.
The Spiders host La Salle University on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
