Women's Soccer Defeats Massachusetts 2-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-Freshman Brooke Binswanger (Memphis, Tenn.) scored her third goal of the season to lift Richmond over Massachusetts in a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory. Richmond's record improves to 3-5-2, while Massachusetts falls to 2-6-1.
The first goal of the game was scored by Massachusetts when Adair Blyler headed a pass from Michelle Luttati that snuck by senior goalkeeper Megan Cox (Raleigh, N.C.) at the 28:04 mark. The Spiders answered in the 41st minute after junior Meghan Ogilvie (Springfield, Va.) scored the game-tying shot to end the first half at 1-1.
After a scoreless second half, Massachusetts tried to end the game in the first overtime when Lindsey Fairweather took a one-on-one shot that Cox saved. The game ended when Binswanger cleaned up a loose ball that hit the right corner of the goal and won the contest 2-1.
Richmond offensively controlled the game and out shot Massachusetts 29-6. Cox tallied three saves, while Minutewomen goalkeeper Kelly Nigh registered a season high 10.
The Spiders face Duquesne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10th in Pittsburgh, Pa.
