UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND-Senior Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored two goals in the second half to lead the University of Richmond women's soccer team past Rhode Island, 3-0. The Spiders improve to 2-5-2, while Rhode Island falls to 2-6-1.
After a scoreless first half, Richmond put the first goal of the game on the board in the 52nd minute when Gardarsdottir scored her first goal of the season. At the 65:05 mark, Gardarsdottir gave the Spiders a 2-0 advantage, as her shot from the far right corner sailed over the finger tips of Ram goalie Melissa Bargione. Junior Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland) was credited with an assist on the play.
Freshman Brooke Binswanger (Memphis, Tenn.) scored off a pass from Mairead Gordon (Forest Hill, Md.) at the 86:47 mark to set the final score at 3-0.
Richmond offensively controlled the game, out shooting Rhode Island 17-1. Senior goalkeeper Megan Cox (Raleigh N.C) recorded her second shutout of the season and tallied one save to Bargione's five.
The Spiders are back in action tomorrow, October 4th at 7:00 p.m. when they face Massachusetts at First Market Stadium.
