Women's Soccer Falls To St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Freshman Brooke Binswanger (Memphis, Tenn.) scored the only goal for the University of Richmond women's soccer team in its first conference loss of the season, 2-1, in double overtime to St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. The Spiders fall to 5-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in A-10 play, while St. Bonaventure's record improves to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the A-10.
In the first half, Binswanger put the Spiders on the board in the 32nd minute, scoring off a rebound pass into the right side of the net from eight yards out. Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland) was credited with the assist, and the Spider's took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
St. Bonaventure's senior defender Erin Johnson came out in the second half and scored the team's first goal in the 58th minute. Johnson took a direct kick from 25 yards out, slipping the ball through Richmond senior goalkeeper Megan Cox's (Raleigh, N.C.) hands.
The game remained tied 1-1 through the remainder of regulation and through the first overtime period. Bonnie freshman goalkeeper Lisa Eberhart recorded 13 saves to improve to 2-3 on the season. Cox was credited with two. The Spiders outshot the Bonnies 30-7.
Deep into the second overtime period, senior defender Lindsay Ardella scored unassisted from the right side of the net, blasting the ball over the reach Cox and giving the Bonnies the sudden death win. The goal was Ardella's first of the season.
The Spiders host Xavier at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 17th at First Market Stadium.
