Clemson Shuts Out Richmond In Women's Soccer

Clemson, S.C.- Richmond (0-1) fell behind early and could not recover as the tenth-ranked Clemson Lady Tigers (1-0) posted a 4-0 win over the Spiders Sunday afternoon in women's college soccer action. Lady Tigers freshman Paige Ledford scored two goals and Lindsay Browne added a goal and an assist for Clemson. The match, which was delayed 90 minutes at halftime because of lightening and rain, was the season opener for both teams.
Clemson's first goal came with just a minute gone by in the game when Browne, last season's National Freshman of the Year, scored off a crossing pass from Heather Beem. The Lady Tigers would add three more goals, all in the first stanza, to seal the victory. Clemson out shot the Spiders 22-4 in the contest and registered 10 corner kicks to Richmond's one.
The Spiders will next be in action on Thursday, September 6 when they travel to College Park, Md. to face the University of Maryland Terrapins (2-0, 1-0). Game time is 7:00 p.m.
