RICHMOND, Va. - Dartmouth freshman forward Lea Kiefer chipped in a five-yard shot off of an assist from first-year midfielder Anne Peick at the 74:33 mark to bolster the Big Green to a 1-0 decision over No. 22-ranked Richmond in non-conference women's soccer action tonight at UR Soccer Complex on the campus of the University of Richmond.
With the loss, the Spiders drop to 9-5-0 on the campaign, while Dartmouth, winners of five straight contests, improve to 8-2-0 overall.
On the game-winning strike, Peick orchestrated the play, sending a crossing pass to Kiefer who deposited the game-winner just past diving Spider 'keeper Kristen Samuhel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill). Samuhel played well throughout, making eight saves on 17 Big Green shots on goal while stymieing numerous other scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Richmond had an opportunity to knot the contest with 4:00 remaining in regulation when junior back Meredith Johnson (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) drilled a shot from 20 yards out that Dartmouth net-minder Kristin Luckenbill made a leaping stab on to secure the victory. The Spiders have now lost five matches on the season - all by a single goal margin.
Richmond continues non-conference action, visiting No. 14 Virginia on Wednesday, October 18 at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
