Mark Stanton was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in January 2024, following previous promotions to Assistant AD in 2021 and Compliance Coordinator in 2018. He provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of Richmond’s athletics compliance program and leads the department’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) initiatives.
Stanton serves as the primary liaison to key campus offices including Financial Aid, the Registrar, and the Bursar’s Office. He is an ex-officio member and former chair of the University Staff Advisory Council (USAC), and a longstanding member of the University Hearing Board. He is also active in the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC), where he participates in the ACE Mentoring Program.
Before joining Richmond, Stanton served as Compliance Assistant at Georgetown University and previously served as a judicial law clerk for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Criminal Division, in Trenton, N.J.
He earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and holds a B.A. in political science from Denison University, where he was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team.
Stanton is a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bars. He and his wife, Naida, live in Richmond with their son and daughter.
