Established in 1977, the University of Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame honors the unparalleled and superior excellence of individuals and teams whose achievements, accomplishments and dedicated support have brought elite recognition and distinction to themselves, their communities and Spider Athletics.
Q: Who is eligible for induction to the Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame?
Spider student-athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and alumni are eligible for the Hall of Fame. There is a five-year disassociation period from Richmond Athletics for student-athletes, coaches and administrators. The disassociation period may be amended for a specific candidate with a two-thirds majority approval of the Hall of Fame selection committee. Deceased candidates become eligible immediately with no waiting period. Candidates must be in good standing with the University of Richmond and have demonstrated good citizenship within their communities.
Q: How are individuals nominated to the Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame?Â
Anyone may submit a nomination by using the online form available at www.richmondspiders.com or submitting a nomination in writing to the chairperson of the Hall of Fame selection committee. Written nominations should provide all data requested on the online form, including name and contact information of the person(s) submitting the nomination. Multiple nominations of a candidate will be accepted.Â
Q: Once nominated, for how many years are individuals considered for induction?Â
Once nominated, a candidate’s information will remain available for review on a yearly basis by the Hall of Fame selection committee.
Q: Is there a deadline to submit nominations?Â
To be considered for that year's class, individuals must be nominated by March 31.Â
Q: Must inductees attend the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony?Â
Inductees must attend the Hall of Fame ceremony. A family member or designated representative of the family should attend in the case of posthumous induction. A candidate selected for induction who cannot attend the ceremony will be considered an inductee in each of the following two years without further vote. Failure to attend during this three-year period will result in a re-vote of the committee to be selected for induction.
Q: What are the requirements for honoring a Team of Distinction?
A year-specific team may be nominated as a Hall of Fame Team of Distinction, honoring outstanding teams that have won championships and/or competed in postseason play. There shall be a three-year wait period from the specific year of the nominated team. The wait period may be amended with a two-thirds majority approval of the Hall of Fame selection committee. A Team of Distinction does not need to be included in each Hall of Fame class, and individuals on a Team of Distinction are not considered members of the Hall of Fame.
Q: How many individuals serve on the Hall of Fame selection committee?
The committee shall consist of a minimum of five individuals and a maximum of nine individuals.
Q: For how long do member serve on the Hall of Fame selection committee?
Committee members will serve a three-year term, renewable for one additional consecutive three-year term. A one-year disassociation period is required for a member to return to the committee following the two, three-year consecutive terms.
Q: How are new Hall of Fame selection committee members selected?
A two-thirds majority vote of current committee members, and approval by the Hall of Fame committee chairperson, will be required for new committee members.
Q: What is the role of the Hall of Fame committee chairperson?Â
Oversight of the Hall of Fame committee is the responsibility of the chairperson of the Hall of Fame selection committee, who is a current employee of the University of Richmond Department of Athletics. The chairperson is not a voting member of the Hall of Fame committee.

Individuals interested in being a Hall of Fame committee member should check the appropriate box on the online Hall of Fame nomination form at www.richmondspiders.com or submit their interest in writing to the chairperson of the Hall of Fame committee.
