University of Richmond Spiders Track & Field Announce Year-End Awards for 2025-26

RICHMOND, Va. — University of Richmond cross country and track and field coaches Lori Taylor and Steve Taylor have announced the program's 2025-26 award winners.

Brooke Reif and Hallie Muniz swept the running awards, earning Most Outstanding Athlete honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. Molly Wise was named the Most Outstanding Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete.

Sydney Phillips, Lydia Shields and Estella Bruneau earned Rookie of the Year honors for the women's program. Phillips was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Indoor and Outdoor Field Performer, while Shields earned Most Outstanding Rookie honors for the outdoor track season. Bruneau was named the Most Outstanding Rookie for the indoor track season.

On the men's side, Henry Haase was named the Most Outstanding Cross Country Athlete, while Cooper Groat earned Most Outstanding Spring Season Athlete honors. Alex Mastroly was selected as the Men's Rookie of the Year for the spring season.

In the classroom, the Spider men and women extended their streak of earning NCAA All-Academic Team recognition to 24 consecutive years by maintaining cumulative grade-point averages above 3.0. Five women also earned NCAA individual All-Academic honors.

The Spiders produced 24 Atlantic 10 All-Conference performers and won four conference championships. Eleven Spiders earned All-East honors by recording top-eight finishes at the IC4A Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Spider women also set two program records. Wise broke the indoor long jump record with a mark of 6.22 meters (20 feet, 5 inches), while Hallie Muniz, an Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honoree, set the indoor 5,000-meter record with a time of 16:33.09.

The women's team finished fifth at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships and sixth at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The men finished 15th at the IC4A Outdoor Championships and 18th at the IC4A Indoor Championships.

Wise was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week multiple times during the indoor and outdoor seasons. She also earned Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and NCAA All-Academic honors and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the long jump.

Additionally, two Spiders claimed national championships at the 2026 Collegiate Trail Running National Championships, with Carter Bruns and Paige Joyce capturing individual titles. Zach Stevens and Mollie Fenn each earned runner-up finishes at the event, while senior Henry Haase placed second at the 2026 Collegiate 10K Road Race National Championship.

Athletes of the Year
Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year: Hallie Muniz
After a standout freshman season, Muniz continued to lead the Spiders during the 2025 cross country campaign. She opened the year by running 14:04.6 in the 4K at the 14-team Spider Alumni Open, helping Richmond to a third-place finish.

She followed with a 12th-place finish in the 5K at the UVA Invitational (17:40.0) before posting a personal-best 20:51 in the 6K at the Princeton Invitational to lead all Spiders.

Muniz finished sixth at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a time of 21:19.0 to earn Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors. She then led Richmond at the NCAA Southeast Regional, completing the 6K course in 20:54.0 as the Spiders finished 17th overall.

A pre-business major, Muniz also earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, recognizing her accomplishments in the classroom and on the course.
Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year: Henry Haase
Haase led the Spiders throughout the 2025 cross country season, opening the fall with an 18:32.4 performance in the 6K at the Spider Alumni Open to help Richmond finish third as a team.

He helped lead Richmond to the team title at the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Challenge with a time of 24:16.5 in the 8K. Haase also paced the Spiders at the Louisville Classic (24:37.8) and Princeton Invitational (25:01.1) before finishing 25th at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a time of 24:44.4.

Haase closed the cross country season by leading Richmond at the NCAA Southeast Regional, covering the Panorama Farms 10K course in 32:23.7. During the spring, he placed second at the Collegiate 10K Road Race National Championships.

During the outdoor season, Condon won the IC4A title in the 5,000 meters after posting a time of 14:33.41 at the Duke Invitational. He also ran on the Spiders' championship-winning 4x1,500-meter relay at William & Mary's Colonial Relays, where the team's winning time was the fastest in the NCAA during the 2026 outdoor season.

Indoor Track Athlete of the Year – Hallie Muniz
Muniz followed a strong cross country season with another outstanding year on the track. She opened the indoor season by winning the 3,000 meters at the Liberty Kick Off in 9:39.31 before beginning the 2026 calendar year with a victory in the 5,000 meters at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Invitational. At the Penn State National Open, she set a personal-best time of 9:34.87 in the 3,000 meters before posting a program-record 16:33.09 in the 5,000 meters at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. She also returned later in the meet to run 4:48.70 in the mile. At the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, Muniz anchored the Spiders' championship-winning distance medley relay (11:29.82), earned a silver medal in the mile (4:54.14) and placed fourth in the 3,000 meters (9:48.03).
During the outdoor season, Muniz opened the year by winning the 1,500 meters at the Spiders' Fred Hardy Invitational in 4:30.19 before finishing second in the 5,000 meters at the Duke Invitational (16:18.94). At the Penn Relays, she anchored the Spiders to a third-place finish in the College Championship distance medley relay with a team time of 11:10.30, running the 1,600-meter anchor leg in 4:42. At the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, she won her preliminary heat of the 1,500 meters in 4:26.41 before earning silver medals in both the 1,500 meters (4:27.47) and the 5,000 meters (16:31.75), closing the 1,500-meter final with a 64.2-second final lap.

Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year – Molly Wise
Wise won the long jump at William & Mary's Colonial Relays with a season-best mark of 6.24 meters (20 feet, 5¾ inches), a jump that ranked seventh in the NCAA at the time. The mark stood through the outdoor season and qualified her for the NCAA Championships First Round in Kentucky, where she entered ranked 34th and finished 20th with a jump of 6.05 meters. She also won the Atlantic 10 outdoor title with a jump of 6.10 meters (20 feet, ¼ inch) and earned Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors multiple times during the season. Wise graduates as one of the most decorated athletes in Spider track and field history.

During the indoor regular season, Wise won every long jump competition she entered, opening the year with a 6.22-meter jump (20 feet, 5 inches) at the Liberty Kick Off. She followed with victories at the VCU Ram Indoor Invitational (5.97 meters), Navy's Wesley A. Brown Invitational (6.12 meters), the Liberty Open (6.18 meters), the Penn State National Open (6.18 meters), Liberty's Darius Dixon Memorial (6.17 meters) and the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational (6.05 meters). She concluded the indoor season by earning a silver medal at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships with a jump of 5.88 meters.

Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year – Brooke Reif
Reif demonstrated her versatility throughout the season, competing in events ranging from the 400 meters to the 5,000 meters. At the Duke Invitational, she completed a distance double by running 4:19.12 in the 1,500 meters to place 10th before returning an hour later to finish the 5,000 meters in 16:51.86. At the Raleigh Relays, she ran 4:26.53 in the 1,500 meters before contributing a 400-meter leg to the Spiders' 4x400-meter relay, which finished 13th in 3:48.37. She also led off the Spiders' distance medley relay with a 1,200-meter split of 3:23 as the team placed third in the Penn Relays College Championships with a time of 11:10.30.
Reif closed the outdoor season by winning the Atlantic 10 title in the 1,500 meters in 4:25.60, covering the final 400 meters in 62 seconds. At the same meet, she finished seventh in the 5,000 meters (17:16.68) and anchored the Spiders' silver medal-winning 4x800-meter relay with a 2:11.72 split following the 5,000-meter race.
During the indoor season, Reif ran 4:50.02 in the mile and 2:53.92 in the 1,000 meters at the Penn State National Open. At the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, she opened the meet by leading off the Spiders' championship-winning distance medley relay with a 1,200-meter split of 3:30.19 after qualifying for the 1,000-meter final with a preliminary time of 2:51.88. She placed fifth in the 1,000-meter final (2:51.89), finished fourth in the mile (4:54.37) and ran a 2:15 split on the Spiders' bronze medal-winning 4x800-meter relay.
Men's Spring Season Athlete of the Year – Cooper Groat
Groat concluded his Richmond career as one of the program's top middle-distance runners. The senior ran a personal-best 1:48.84 to finish second at William & Mary's Colonial Relays. He also placed third in the 1,000 meters at the 2026 IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships (2:26.53) to earn All-East honors for the second consecutive year and ran the 800-meter leg on the Spiders' ninth-place distance medley relay. He added a third-place finish in the 800 meters at the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational (1:50.84).
During the outdoor season, Groat placed third in the 800 meters at the Spiders' Fred Hardy Invitational (1:52.57) and ran on the Spiders' eighth-place 4x400-meter relay. He closed the season by placing third in the 800 meters at the IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-East honors.

Rookies of the Year
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year: Alyson Stepp
Stepp earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors during her freshman season. She finished as the fifth-fastest freshman at the Atlantic 10 Championship, completing the 6K course in 22:16.1 at the University of Dayton. She also posted a personal-best time of 21:49.8 in the 6K at the Princeton Fall Classic before finishing among the top 30 freshmen at the NCAA Southeast Regional, where she served as Richmond's No. 4 runner as the Spiders placed 17th.

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year: Andy Condon
Condon earned Men's Rookie of the Year honors following a strong freshman season. He opened the year by finishing 12th overall in 18:30.5 at the Spider Alumni Open, the second-fastest time by a freshman in the 6K field, helping the Spiders to a third-place team finish.

He followed with a runner-up finish at the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Challenge, covering the 8K course in 23:46.7 to lead Richmond to the team championship. Condon later placed 40th at the Atlantic 10 Championship (24:56.9), finishing as the sixth-fastest freshman in the field and earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors.

Indoor Track Rookie of the Year – Estella Bruneau
Bruneau earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the 5,000 meters following a strong indoor season. She ran under 17:52 in each of her 5,000-meter races during the indoor campaign, including a fourth-place finish at the George Mason Patriot Games (17:45.40), a runner-up finish at Liberty's Darius Dixon Invitational (17:52.35) and a runner-up finish at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships (17:49.36).
During the outdoor season, Bruneau placed 10th in the 5,000 meters at the ECAC Championships (17:44.47). She also ran a leg on the Spiders' 4x800-meter relay before returning to finish 12th in the 5,000 meters at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal-best time of 17:30.68.
Indoor and Outdoor Field Rookie of the Year – Sydney Phillips
Phillips carried her success from the indoor season into the outdoor campaign, earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the triple jump after placing sixth at the conference championships with a mark of 11.94 meters (39 feet, 2¼ inches). At William & Mary's Colonial Relays, she surpassed the 12-meter mark with a jump of 12.05 meters (39 feet, 6½ inches) to finish second. She also set a personal-best mark of 5.60 meters (18 feet, 4½ inches) in the long jump to place third at the Fred Hardy Invitational before finishing second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.63 meters (38 feet, 2 inches).

Phillips opened her collegiate career by placing fourth in the triple jump at the Liberty Kick Off with a personal-best mark of 11.69 meters (38 feet, 4¼ inches). She eclipsed the 11-meter mark in every meet during the indoor and outdoor seasons. At George Mason's Patriot Games, she won the triple jump with a mark of 11.84 meters (38 feet, 10¼ inches) and finished fourth in the long jump at 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11¾ inches). She also won the triple jump at the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational with a mark of 11.62 meters (38 feet, 1½ inches) and placed fourth in the long jump (5.48 meters). She closed the indoor season by placing seventh in the triple jump at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships with a season-best mark of 11.85 meters (38 feet, 10½ inches).
Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year – Lydia Shields
Shields earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the 10,000 meters following a strong outdoor season. She placed ninth in the 10,000 meters at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 36:33.93 and finished 11th in the 5,000 meters at the ECAC Championships (17:45.60) after running a personal-best 17:42.12 at the Fred Hardy Invitational. In her first collegiate 10,000-meter race, she placed sixth at the 60th running of William & Mary's Colonial Relays.
Men's Spring Season Rookie of the Year – Alex Mastroly
Mastroly teamed with Eric Scully and freshmen Jason Raffel and Andy Condon to win the 4x1,500-meter relay at William & Mary's Colonial Relays in the fastest time in the NCAA during the 2026 outdoor season. He also ran the 5,000 meters at the Duke Invitational, posting a time of 14:41.10. During the indoor season, he recorded a personal-best 8:25.58 in the 3,000 meters to finish fifth at the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational. He followed with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000 meters at the Fred Hardy Invitational (8:34.96) during the outdoor season.

Condon later placed 40th at the Atlantic 10 Championship (24:56.9), finishing as the sixth-fastest freshman in the field and earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors.

Indoor Track Rookie of the Year – Estella Bruneau
Bruneau earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the 5,000 meters following a strong indoor season. She ran under 17:52 in each of her 5,000-meter races during the indoor campaign, including a fourth-place finish at the George Mason Patriot Games (17:45.40), a runner-up finish at Liberty's Darius Dixon Invitational (17:52.35) and a runner-up finish at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships (17:49.36).
During the outdoor season, Bruneau placed 10th in the 5,000 meters at the ECAC Championships (17:44.47). She also ran a leg on the Spiders' 4x800-meter relay before returning to finish 12th in the 5,000 meters at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal-best time of 17:30.68.
Indoor and Outdoor Field Rookie of the Year – Sydney Phillips
Phillips carried her success from the indoor season into the outdoor campaign, earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the triple jump after placing sixth at the conference championships with a mark of 11.94 meters (39 feet, 2¼ inches). At William & Mary's Colonial Relays, she surpassed the 12-meter mark with a jump of 12.05 meters (39 feet, 6½ inches) to finish second. She also set a personal-best mark of 5.60 meters (18 feet, 4½ inches) in the long jump to place third at the Fred Hardy Invitational before finishing second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.63 meters (38 feet, 2 inches).

Phillips opened her collegiate career by placing fourth in the triple jump at the Liberty Kick Off with a personal-best mark of 11.69 meters (38 feet, 4¼ inches). She eclipsed the 11-meter mark in every meet during the indoor and outdoor seasons. At George Mason's Patriot Games, she won the triple jump with a mark of 11.84 meters (38 feet, 10¼ inches) and finished fourth in the long jump at 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11¾ inches). She also won the triple jump at the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational with a mark of 11.62 meters (38 feet, 1½ inches) and placed fourth in the long jump (5.48 meters). She closed the indoor season by placing seventh in the triple jump at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships with a season-best mark of 11.85 meters (38 feet, 10½ inches).
Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year – Lydia Shields
Shields earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors in the 10,000 meters following a strong outdoor season. She placed ninth in the 10,000 meters at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 36:33.93 and finished 11th in the 5,000 meters at the ECAC Championships (17:45.60) after running a personal-best 17:42.12 at the Fred Hardy Invitational. In her first collegiate 10,000-meter race, she placed sixth at the 60th running of William & Mary's Colonial Relays.
Men's Spring Season Rookie of the Year – Alex Mastroly
Mastroly teamed with Eric Scully and freshmen Jason Raffel and Andy Condon to win the 4x1,500-meter relay at William & Mary's Colonial Relays in the fastest time in the NCAA during the 2026 outdoor season. He also ran the 5,000 meters at the Duke Invitational, posting a time of 14:41.10. During the indoor season, he recorded a personal-best 8:25.58 in the 3,000 meters to finish fifth at the JDL Asics Last Chance Invitational. He followed with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000 meters at the Fred Hardy Invitational (8:34.96) during the outdoor season.
During the 2025 cross country season, four student-athletes were recognized as the Spiders' Cross Country Athletes of the Year. The honorees were Hallie Muniz, Henry Haase, Alyson Stepp and Andy Condon.
