Six Spiders Named USA Lacrosse All-Americans
05/07/2026 | Men's Lacrosse
Sparks, Md. – Six members of the University of Richmond men's lacrosse team were named USA Lacrosse All-Americans on Thursday, recognizing the Spiders among the nation's top individual performers this season.
Hunter Smith (D) and Jack Pilling (SSDM) earned First Team honors, while Joe Sheridan (M) was named a Second Team selection. Gavin Creo (M) collected Third Team recognition, and Aidan O'Neil (A) along with Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson (LSM) were tabbed as Honorable Mentions.
Princeton led the nation with eight All-Americans, followed by Richmond, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and North Carolina with six apiece.
Powered by those six standouts, Richmond enters the NCAA Tournament ranked among the nation's elite on both ends of the field. The Spiders lead the country in scoring margin (+7.40) and winning percentage (.933), while ranking second nationally in both scoring offense (15.47 goals per game) and points per game (24.13). Richmond also ranks among the national leaders in assists per game (8.67, sixth) and shot percentage (.340, sixth).
The dominance extends to the defensive end, where Richmond ranks third nationally in scoring defense (8.07 goals allowed per game) and fourth in caused turnovers per game (10.53). The Spiders also sit eighth nationally in clearing percentage (.909), ground balls per game (35.27), and man-down defense (.767).
No. 2-ranked and third-seeded Richmond — winners of 23 of its last 25 games — will make its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in just 13 seasons and host its first-ever NCAA Tournament game Saturday night at Robins Stadium against Duke. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with ESPNU carrying the broadcast featuring Drew Carter and Paul Carcaterra on the call.
