COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Richmond Spiders women's golf team placed ninth at the Terps Invitational at University of Maryland Golf Course Tuesday, finishing the event at 42-over par (906). The 16-team field featured eight teams in the top 100 of the national rankings, including tournament champion Virginia, who finished at 4-under par (860). It was Richmond's final event before the Spiders defend their Atlantic 10 title at the A-10 Championship in Orlando, Fla. on April 20-22.
"It was another opportunity to play against some good teams and see that we are ready for the challenge at conference," said Spiders coach Calle Barlow.
Junior Maya Beasley was Richmond's top indivdual finisher, tying for 26th among the 90 golfers in the field. Beasley finished at 8-over par (224) after playing her final round in 2-over Monday, best of any Spdier.
Freshman Addie Doroh also finished in the top 30, tying for 29th at 9-over par (225). It's Doroh's third straight top-30 finish dating back to last month's More Than Golf Invitational. Doroh was 6-under par on par 5s during the event, tied for the best of any golfer.
Seniors Hannah Lydic and Olivia Wilkie finished in the middle of the pack, with Lydic tying for 43rd at 12-over par (228) and Wilkie tying for 53rd at 14-over par (230). Wilkie's 76 (+4) was Richmond's second-lowest round Monday.
Sophomore Katie Magner tied for 78th at 21-over par (237).
Up next for Richmond is the second annual Atlantic 10 Women's Golf Championship at Evermore Resort in Orlando on April 20-22. The Spiders won the inaugural event last year, finishing eight shots in front of runner-up Dayton.
"We have a good practice plan to get us ready for A-10s," said Barlow following the round.
