03/28/2026 | Men's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va. – No. 2 Richmond dominated Hobart in a lopsided Atlantic 10 contest Saturday, taking down the Statesmen 24–8 while rewriting the program record books.
The Spiders controlled possession throughout, collecting 51 ground balls to Hobart's 19 and firing 53 shots compared to 21 for the Statesmen. Richmond also set a program record with 30 faceoff wins, its most ever in a single game, and was effective on clears, completing 14 of 15 attempts while Hobart finished 14 of 20. Richmond's offensive output marked the second-most goals in program history, while the team's 51 ground balls represented the third-most in program history.
The Spiders' scoring attack was balanced and productive, with 16 players recording points. Aidan O'Neil led the team with two goals and four assists. Jack Riccairdi added three goals and an assist, Gavin Creo had two goals and an assist, and Lucas Littlejohn scored three goals. Joe Sheridan, Charlie Packard, Daniel Picart, and Porter Barnett each recorded two goals. Freshman James Pagano earned his first career points with a goal and an assist, and Evan O'Neil contributed two goals. Additional scoring came from Leo Caine, Tanner Huber, and Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson, each with a goal, while Matt Jacobsen, Jackson Carawan, and Jack Dougherty recorded an assist each.
Richmond jumped to a 16–5 first-half advantage thanks to scoring streaks of fourn and three goals in the opening quarter, followed by a string of nine unanswered goals between 9:41 in the second and 10:02 in the third. Richmond rounded out the game with a scoring spree of six-straight goals in the fourth quarter as it unloaded its bench.
The Spiders' offensive efficiency was complemented by their defense. Goalies Connor Knight and Brody Murphy shared time in cage, with Knight recording all seven Richmond saves. Richmond also forced 10 of Hobart's 15 turnovers, with attackman Aidan O'Neil leading the effort with two caused turnovers, as the Spiders rode hard to consistently disrupt Hobart's clearing attempts. Possession and subsequent offensive output was largely attributed to dominant faceoff play as freshman Vincent Gaylord went 16-of-20 at the stripe and scooped 11 ground balls, while Anthony DiCenso went 8-of-8 with four ground balls, and Jackson Strickland was 6-of-7 with two ground balls.
The victory improved Richmond to 9–0 to start the season, marking the best start in program history, and matched the program record for consecutive wins at nine, set in 2025. The Spiders also extended their streak over Atlantic 10 opponents to nine consecutive victories.
Richmond will travel to Chicago next Saturday, April 4, to face top-ranked Notre Dame during Lacrosse Day in Chicago hosted by Northwestern. The game is set for a 12:30 p.m. ET start and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
