Stanley Reaches Career Milestone in 14-2 Win Over Rhode Island

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women's lacrosse team cruised past Rhode Island, 14-2, at Robins Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Spiders won their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference game. In the win, Juliana Stanley reached the 100-point career milestone.

With the win, Richmond improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play. Rhode Island falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
 "It was a great team win today. It's really fun to come out and have everyone participating on the field," said head coach Anne Harrington. "Rhode Island is working through making changes game by game, so credit to them for putting together a good game plan. Overall, it was a great day for Richmond lacrosse."
Alexis Morton led the team with five goals. Stanley tallied three points on two goals and one assist, while Meghan Rode collected three assists. Charlotte Edwards, Rileigh Meyer and Stella Axe each scored two goals. Elizabeth Darcy recorded a goal, and Anya Wardle and Bridget Lonsinger each tallied an assist.

In the draw circle, Rode collected 11 draw controls.

Morton led the team with two caused turnovers, while Edwards led the team with three ground balls. CC Jacobs, Wardle, R. Meyer and Victoria Rankin each collected two ground balls. Eleven other Spiders each collected a ground ball.

In goal, Abby Francioli earned the win, collecting three saves on four shots on goal in 30 minutes of play. Maggie Mullen tallied three saves in 18:21 of action, and Ally Goveia saw 11:39 in goal.

Richmond led in multiple statistical categories. The Spiders held a 39-15 advantage in shots and a 22-8 edge in shots on goal. They also went 19-of-20 on clears, led 22-7 in ground balls and 15-4 in draw controls.

The Spiders shut out Rhode Island 5-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Richmond scored back-to-back goals to take a 7-0 lead. The Rams scored their first goal at the 6:53 mark to make it 7-1. The Spiders closed the first half with two more goals to lead 9-1 at halftime.

To start the second half, Richmond netted four more goals. Rhode Island scored at the 9:55 mark of the fourth quarter. The Spiders sealed the win with another goal to secure the 14-2 victory.

Richmond will travel to Northern Virginia to face George Mason on Wednesday, March 18 at 5 p.m.
