RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's basketball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Brittany Pinkney has been selected to participate in the 2026 WBCA Next Generation Institute, as announced Thursday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The WBCA Next Generation Institute is a selective, high-level professional development program designed for experienced assistant coaches who aspire to become collegiate head coaches. Now in its fourth year, the Institute focuses on the CEO-level skills required to lead a program in today's evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape, with an emphasis on leadership, communication, marketing, and resource management.
Pinkney is one of 35 assistant coaches nationwide chosen for the 2026 cohort. The Institute will be held in conjunction with the WBCA Convention, scheduled for April 2–5 in Phoenix.
"It is an honor to be chosen for the WBCA Next Generation Institute," Pinkney said. "I am ready to learn and apply skills that will grow and elevate my career, as well as network with colleagues I can glean from. This is a special opportunity that I know will grow me as a leader, and I am excited to begin."
Pinkney is in her seventh season on the Richmond staff in 2025-26 and has been a key contributor to one of the most successful stretches in program history. She played a pivotal role in the Spiders' historic 2024-25 campaign, which featured the program's first NCAA Tournament victory, a second straight Atlantic 10 regular season title, and a 28-7 overall record. Richmond also set a program mark with 17 consecutive wins and earned national recognition as one of just three mid-major programs to win an NCAA Tournament game.
Her impact has been felt across player development and recruiting, including the growth of multiple All-Conference performers and an Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Pinkney has earned multiple national and institutional honors, including back-to-back Assistant Coach of the Year recognition at the SPIDYs Awards and selection to national mid-major assistant coach watch lists.
During her tenure, Richmond has captured consecutive Atlantic 10 regular season titles, its first-ever A-10 Tournament championship, and multiple postseason berths, while establishing itself as one of the nation's most consistent mid-major programs.
To be eligible for selection to the WBCA Next Generation Institute, coaches must be current WBCA members, have a minimum of five years of coaching experience, and be nominated by a WBCA member.
