Wise Wins Long Jump as Richmond Opens Action at Darius Dixon Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The University of Richmond women's track and field team opened competition Friday at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with several strong performances across sprint, distance and field events.
For the sixth consecutive meet this season, Molly Wise led the Spiders with a first-place finish in the long jump. Competing in the upper division, Wise posted a mark of 6.17 meters. She also ran in the 60-meter preliminaries, finishing with a personal-best time of 7.84 seconds.
In the distance events, freshman Lily Strebel placed fifth in the women's 3,000 meter open, crossing the line in 10:15.31. Fellow freshman Lydia Shields followed with a ninth-place finish in 10:23.50.
Richmond also saw success in the 5,000-meter. Sophomore Charlotte Hudson placed eighth in the invitational section with a time of 18:02.85. In the open section, freshman Estella Bruneau earned a runner-up finish in 17:52.35. Addie Cohen took fifth in 18:08.65, while Paige Joyce finished seventh in 18:16.67.
Competing unattached, Cooper Groat finished 14th in the 800-meter invite with a time of 1:52.63. Jason Raffel finished sixth in the 800-meter open with a time of 1:56.31 and Joshua Gray finished with a time of 1:58.89. In the 3,000-meter, Carter Bruns finished at 9:02.21.
The Spiders will continue competition tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. for the final day of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
