Spiders Blanked at Fordham Sunday Afternoon

BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team fell in a tight 1-0 battle on the road Sunday at Fordham in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Following the close loss, the Spiders moved to 3-5-3 overall and 0-3-0 in conference action, while the Rams improved to 7-3-1 and 2-1-0.
How It Happened
Richmond opened on the front foot, creating early pressure with shots from Morgane Zinn and Emma Newman that forced Fordham keeper Kyla King into a pair of saves. The Spiders generated four shots and two corner kicks in the opening 25 minutes but could not find the back of the net. On the other end, Veronica Rrapi came up with a key stop on Olivia Vricella to keep the match level at the break.
Fordham found the breakthrough in the 69th minute when Ava Giudice's shot was saved but rebounded to Liina Tervo who converted in front of the net.
Richmond continued to battle for the equalizer, with Paige West testing King in the 85th minute, but the Spiders were unable to find the equalizer for the 1-0 loss.

Richmond returns home for a two-match homestand, beginning Thursday, Oct. 2 against Dayton at 5 p.m. at President's Field. The Spiders will then host Rhode Island on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
