RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond women's soccer freshman Emma Newman earned Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honorable mention following her standout debut weekend, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Newman, a Mission Viejo, Calif., native, tied the program's single-game record with four goals and added an assist in the Spiders' 5-0 season-opening win over VMI on Aug. 14. The Spiders' five-goal output was their largest margin of victory in a season opener in program history, and the first 5-0 win since 2019.
She followed up the record-setting debut with four more shots, including two on goal, in Richmond's match against Coastal Carolina on Aug. 17.
Newman becomes the first Spider to earn Top Drawer Soccer weekly recognition since Lexi Prillaman in 2016. She also picked up Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors following her debut, the first rookie honor since Emma Coleman was named A-10 Rookie of the Week in September 2021.
Richmond continues its homestand on Thursday, welcoming East Carolina to President's Field for a 5 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
