
Spiders Add Maine Transfer AJ Lopez

RICHMOND, Va. — AJ Lopez, a 6'5" guard from Queens, N.Y., will transfer to Richmond and play for the Spiders this upcoming season.
Lopez spent the last two seasons at Maine, where he earned 2025 Second Team All-America East Conference honors after averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game while leading the Black Bears to their first 20-win season since 2003-04.
Lopez ranked among the America East leaders in scoring (10th), field goal percentage (48.1%, fifth among qualifiers), and free throw percentage (87.8%, second) last season. He also shot 40.3% from three-point range, seventh best in the conference among those with at least 100 three-point attempts. On Nov. 20, 2024 in the Robins Center, Lopez led Maine with 19 points, matching his career high at the time, as the Black Bears fell to the Spiders 70-66.
As a junior at Maine in 2023-24, Lopez appeared in 26 games with one start, averaging 8.6 points per game. He began his college career at New Hampshire, where he appeared in 10 games during the 2022-23 season.
Lopez did a postgraduate year at Mount Zion Prep in Lanham, Md., where he averaged 16.1 points per game. As a senior at Schoolhouse Prep in Miami, Fla., Lopez earned All-Dade County honors after scoring 20.8 points per game.
Lopez is the fourth member of Richmond's 2025 transfer class, joining Will Johnston (Loyola Marymount), David Thomas (DePaul), and Jaden Daughtry (Indiana State).
