RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond men's basketball will participate in the 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational at Walt Disney World Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. on November 27-28, ESPN announced Wednesday. The Spiders will be part of a four-team bracket that includes mid-major powers Furman, Illinois State, and Charlotte.
The semifinals will be played on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, with the championship and consolation games on Friday, Nov. 28. Semifinals matchups and television broadcast information will be announced at a later time.
Richmond is 12-9 all-time vs former A-10 rival Charlotte, with the last meeting coming last November. The Spiders are 22-33 all-time vs former Southern Conference rival Furman, though the schools haven't met since 1976. UR has never faced Illinois State.
2025-26 will be the third straight season the Spiders play in a Thanksgiving week tournament in Florida. UR participated in the 2023 Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach and the 2024 Gulf Coast Showcase in Fort Myers.
The 2025-26 Spiders return three of their top five scorers from last season and feature a class of four incoming transfer students: Jaden Daughtry (Indiana State), Will Johnston (Loyola Marymount), AJ Lopez (Maine), and David Thomas (DePaul). Richmond Athletics is currently accepting deposits from new season ticket holders for the 2025-26 season. The season ticket renewal process is expected to begin in early July.
