Palmeri Hits for Cycle, Whitley Nabs Season Stolen Bases Record as Spider Baseball Collects Senior Day Win

Richmond completes the season with a 33-19 record and 14-16 in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Richmond bats jumped on the board first in the second with a five run frame. Cole Palmeri picked up two runs with a double down the left field line. Connor Larson pushed in a run on a ground out for the third run of the inning. Aaron Whitley scored Palmeri with a double then stole his 36th base of the season, picking up the new single season program record. Phil Bernstein and Jack Arcamone hit back-to-back RBI singles through the right side to take a 5-0 lead.
Davidson got within one run after posting two runs in the third and fourth innings, 5-4, then took the lead in the top of the fifth, 6-5.
In the bottom of the fifth, Arcamone drew a lead off walk then trotted home on Brady O'Brien's 20th home run of the season. With two outs, Palmeri launched his second home run down the left field line to give UR an 8-6 lead.
UR tacked on three more runs in the seventh for a 11-6 lead. Michael Elko and D.J. Pacheco went yard back-to-back to kick of the frame. Palmeri then tripled with a hit to the right field corner and came home on Whitley's base hit to left center.
The Wildcats got single runs in the top of the eighth and ninth, but the Spiders tallied three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put it out of reach. Pacheco reached with a base hit then Palmeri finished the cycle with a single to left. With the bases loaded, Jordan Jaffe pushed in two with a base hit to left center and Bernstein pushed in the third run on a Wildcat miscue in left.
Matthew Anderson got the start and retired the one batter he faced. Joey Giordano tossed two and a third of an inning, scattering two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Jason Shockley went an inning and a third, allowing two runs on two hits and struck out two. Dane Armson tossed an inning, allowing two runs on three hits before Josh Willitts (1-0) tossed a scoreless frame allowing only one walk. Brian Reinke finished the final three innings on the mound, scattering two runs one earned on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
