Miller Honored with William L. Lumpkin Track and Field Leadership Award
04/08/2025 | Cross Country, Women's Track & Field
Established in 1997 in memory of former Spiders coach Dr. William L. Lumpkin, this award was created by alumni from the 1948-49 cross country team whom Lumpkin coached. It continues to honor student-athletes who demonstrate the highest standards of leadership and dedication.
Miller, a key figure in the Spiders' middle-distance program, has served as a team captain, providing both leadership and mentorship to her teammates. Her commitment to excellence extends beyond the track, as she has contributed to the team's recognition as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in each of her four years. Her leadership has helped extend the program's streak of earning this academic distinction in both cross country and track and field to 23 consecutive years.
"Dylan's induction into this esteemed group of student-athletes exemplifies her dedication," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Lori Taylor.
"She has not only excelled in competition but has also been an invaluable mentor to her teammates. Her loyalty, work ethic, and commitment to the program have greatly contributed to our team's success. As a middle-distance runner, she embraced the journey, grew into a leadership role, and left a lasting impact on the program. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and excited to see what her future holds."
