COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Sophomore Maya Beasley and freshman Katie Magner both shot a round under par Sunday as Richmond competed in Round 1 & 2 of the UMD Terp Invitational at University of Maryland Golf Course. The Spiders are tied for eighth on the 14-team leaderboard at 17-over par (593) with Monday's final round remaining.
"I'm seeing great things from the team," said coach Calle Barlow. "It was good to see Katie go low and I'm proud of Maya too for her second round."
Magner (1-under in Round 1) and Beasley (1-under in Round 2) recorded the seventh and eight rounds under par for the Spiders this year, making this event the first time all season multiple Spiders have shot under par in the same event. Through 36 holes, Beasley is 20th on the individual leaderboard at 3-over par (147), one shot in front of Magner, who's tied for 25th at 4-over par (148).
Junior Olivia Wilkie is tied for 38th at 6-over par after rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4) Sunday.
Freshman Caroline Thompson shot 76-76 and is tied for 48th at 8-over par (152).
Senior Lauren Jones shot a season-best 73 (+1) Sunday afternoon, shaving eight strokes off her Round 1 score. She's tied for 57th at 10-over par (154).
The Spiders played the par 5s in a combined 4-under par Sunday, tied for third best of any team.
Round 3 will begin Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.
