RICHMOND, Va. — Carson Baez of men's golf and Katie Magner of women's golf were among the honorees when the Atlantic 10 announced its recent weekly golf honors Wednesday. Baez was named A-10 Men's Golf Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 20 for his 6-over performance at the 54-hole Sea Palms Invitational. Magner was named Women's Golf Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 13 after she finished sixth at the Chris Banister Golf Classic while helping Richmond to a team win at the event.
Baez has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week five times this season. His most recent honor came after he tied for 49th at the Sea Palms Invitational on March 15. Baez followed a 1-under 70 in Round 1 with rounds of 74 (+3) and 75 (+4) to finish at 6-over par, tied for 49th place in the field of 120 golfers.
Magner won her first A-10 Rookie of the Week honor after tying for sixth at the Chris Banister Golf Classic on March 11. She was one of four Spiders to finish in the top 10 as UR won the seven-team event for its first victory of the season. Magner opened with back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4) before an 8-over 80 in the final round to finish tied for sixth at 16-over par (232).
