
Men’s Tennis Sweeps A-10 Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team swept the Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards as Dylan Atkinson notched Under Armour Player of the Week and Sam Rathmanner picked up the Under Armour Rookie of the Week nod. The award is Atkinson's first career weekly honor, the second of the season for Rathmanner, and the third of the season for the Spiders.
Atkinson, an Old Greenwich, Conn. native, picked up the first Player of the Week honor for Richmond since Feb. 20, 2024, when Sebastian Miano received the recognition. The sophomore is coming off a huge week for the Spiders, leading the team to two wins over Randolph-Macon (W, 7-0) on March 7 and Bucknell (W, 4-3) on March 8. Against the Yellow Jackets, Atkinson and Otto Sewell defeated Crotts/Palmer (RMC) 6-1 on court one to help clinch the doubles point before he picked up a singles win on court No. 1 over Crotts (RMC) 6-1, 6-0 to help Richmond complete the 7-0 sweep.
In the match against Bucknell, Atkinson and Sewell again picked up a 6-4 doubles win over Kilmer and Singh (BU) on court three. In singles, Atkinson defeated Kilmer (BU) in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 on court No. 4 to help UR improve to 6-5 on the year.
Rathmanner, a Mahtomedi, Minn. native, continued his strong freshman campaign, going 2-0 in singles and doubles in both matches against Randolph-Macon and Bucknell. In doubles against the Yellow Jackets, Rathmanner and fellow Spider Grant Cohen defeated Luis Geyne and Jett Hales (RMC), 6-0, while in singles, he picked up a straight-set win over Evan Holzmacher (RMC), 6-0, 6-0, on court three.
Against the Bison, Rathmanner was key in the 4-3 win. In doubles, Rathmanner and Paxton Pritchard defeated Bain and Stavrakas (BU), 7-5, on court two to help clinch the doubles point. In singles, the freshman was dominant on the sixth court, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Singh (BU).
The Spiders open a four-match home stand on March 22 against Dayton before welcoming Howard (March 28), Duquesne (March 29), and Longwood (April 9) to campus.
